Muse of the Month: Anabelle Ussher
This month we’re spotlighting Anabelle Ussher, a Sydney-based makeup artist, model and content creator. A close friend of the brand, Anabelle brings energy to everything she does, from layering her favourite AMJ pieces to leading masterclasses and disrupting industry norms through representation. Adored for her aura, her energy and for being quite literally the most beautiful human inside and out, Annabelle inspires us daily, and we’re so honoured to have her as our Muse for September.
What’s your favourite Alana Maria piece and why?
It changes all the time but as of late the Clementine necklace has been my hyper fixation. It’s perfect - a statement piece while still suitable for everyday and it layers really well with everything. A+++
What’s a piece of jewellery you can’t live without?
I’ve been wearing my Cyprus bracelet almost every day for two years, it’s a part of me now.
Can you share a special memory tied to a piece of jewellery?
My baby name plate bracelet. My first piece of gold jewellery gifted to me by my parents. I was a toddler but that piece started it all for me.
What’s your profession and how does it impact the fashion industry?
I’m a makeup artist, model and content creator so I work both in front and behind the camera in both fashion and beauty. They are all quite creative roles with hyper-visibility, pushing, shaping and challenging trends. I have a unique experience as a dark skinned Black woman; Eurocentric features are very much still the beauty standard, and I disrupt that norm by consciously taking up space. Representation is a key pillar that guides a lot of what I do, and sometimes that can just mean showing up even when it’s uncomfortable. Reminding myself always to be the change I want to see.
What’s been your most exciting career moment so far?
I’ve been blessed with a lot of ‘pinch me’ opportunities, like featuring in a nationwide campaign for Vaseline, leading makeup masterclasses and travelling overseas to consult on beauty launches to name a few.
